Pond Maintenance

Pond maintenance is often overlooked by homeowners. A water garden requires a certain degree of maintenance in order to keep it from becoming a stagnant mess. If you’re not willing to do the maintenance, it’s probably best not to build a pond.

If you do have the time and energy for proper pond maintenance, there are some basic pieces of equipment you’re going to need. Algae are a common problem for pond owners. A quality filtration system, along with the right aquatic plants, can greatly diminish the amount of algae in your water garden.

Pond maintenance often requires clearing debris from the water’s bottom. For larger debris, a skimmer net is often all that is required. However, for finer particles it is often recommended that a pond vacuum be used.
