Pond Liners

Pond liners are the foundation for any backyard water garden. They are designed to keep the pond water from seeping into the ground, requiring the pond to be refilled and wasting water. They also help protect your pond, and the life contained therein, from becoming contaminated by ground water run-off, which often contain residual amounts of fertilizers and other chemicals.

Most reputable home and garden retailers will carry a variety of pond liners. They can come as pre-cut kits, ready to install, or can often be found in rolls which can be cut to fit any design. In most cases, experts recommend purchasing a liner that is at least 20-30% larger than the finished pond itself.

Ethylene propylene diene M-class rubber (EPDM) pond liners are the most recommended. These are recommended because they are easily cut to any design specifications, and they are extremely wear resistant. These liners are also considered safe for all fish and plant life.
