Pond Filters

Pond filters are essential parts of a backyard water garden. Without a filter, the water can become loaded with algae and bacteria, which can have a detrimental effect on the life in your pond. They also improve the overall look of a pond by providing crystal clear water.

There are typically two basic types of pond filters. The first type uses some kind of medium, through which water is forced. As the water passes through the material the contaminants are filtered out. This type of filter should be checked and replaced on a regular basis.

The second type of filter is a little more modern in design. UV filters use ultra-violet light to destroy any bacteria or algae that might be present. These filters are usually more expensive but are extremely effective.
